Greener Grass 40th Anniversary + Calgary Lawn Care Tips That Still Work
For 40 years, Greener Grass has been helping Calgary homeowners grow healthier, greener lawns. And we’re proud to be part of this community every step of the way!
Since opening our doors in 1986, our focus has always been simple: provide reliable, honest lawn care that actually works in Calgary’s unique climate. Over the years, we’ve seen trends come and go, but one thing hasn’t changed — great lawns come from consistent care, local knowledge, and doing things the right way.
As we celebrate this milestone, we wanted to share a few tried-and-true tips that have stood the test of time.
Parker and the Future of Greener Grass
Greener Grass has always been a family business, and that legacy continues with Parker.
Growing up around the company, Parker learned the ins and outs of lawn care early on, working alongside his father, Craig, who founded Greener Grass in 1986. What started as helping out naturally turned into a long-term passion for the work and the community they serve.
Parker, now the company’s owner, helps carry that foundation forward — combining the same reliable, customer-first approach with a modern understanding of Calgary lawn care. It’s about keeping what works, improving where needed, and continuing to deliver results homeowners can count on!
40 Years of Lawn Care Wisdom (That Still Works)
1. Healthy Lawns Start With the Soil
Everything begins below the surface. Strong, nutrient-rich soil supports deeper roots, better water absorption, and long-term lawn health. Aeration and soil-enhancing treatments have been a core part of our approach since day one — and for good reason.
2. Fertilizing at the Right Time Matters
One of the biggest lessons we’ve learned over the years is that timing is everything when fertilizing your lawn in Calgary. With our short growing season, properly timed applications make a noticeable difference in colour, thickness, and resilience.
3. Weed Control Is About Prevention
Weeds like dandelions, clover, and thistle don’t just appear; they take advantage of weak or stressed lawns. Consistent fertilizer that homeowners rely on is about strengthening your lawn so weeds have less room to grow in the first place.
4. Don’t Cut Your Grass Too Short
It might seem like mowing shorter means mowing less often, but it actually weakens your lawn and invites weeds. Keeping your grass slightly longer helps shade the soil and promotes healthier growth.
5. Consistency Beats Quick Fixes
Over the years, we’ve seen it time and time again. Lawns that receive consistent care always outperform lawns that rely on occasional treatments. A steady schedule of fertilizing, weed control, and maintenance leads to stronger, more resilient turf.
